Congratulations to Mark Lewis for receiving the 2024 Akira Okubo Prize!
The prize is jointly administered by the Society for Mathematical Biology and the Japanese Society for Mathematical Biology.
The Akira Okubo Fund was established in memory of Akira Okubo, who made major contributions to many fields, including mathematical ecology and oceanography. Okubo was widely recognized for his scientific work, as well as for his exceptional humanity.
The Akira Okubo Prize honors a senior living scientist (associate/full professor or equivalent position) for outstanding and innovative theoretical work, for establishing superb conceptual ideas, for solving tough theoretical problems, and/or for uniting theory and data to advance a biological subject.

Congratulations Emma Atkinson for receiving the Michael Smith Foreign Study Supplement to support her research visit to the University of Bergen in Norway.
Emma will be working with Dr. Katja Enberg, Principle Investigator of the Sustainable Fisheries
Group at the University of Bergen, which will allow Emma to further develop her population model for spot prawns in an environment of researchers working on similar problems across a wide range of marine
fisheries.
