
Tianxu Wang joined the Lewis Research Group in August 2026 as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Her research focuses on animal movement and the effects of pollution across cellular, individual, and population scales. She uses partial differential equations, ordinary differential equations, agent-based models, and experimental data to study systems including zebrafish, C. elegans, and vultures.
Tianxu completed her PhD in Applied Mathematics at the University of Alberta under the supervision of Dr. Hao Wang. Her doctoral research investigated how pollution influences fish pigmentation patterns, individual behaviour and personality, spatial pattern formation, and population responses to complex and heterogeneous environments. During her graduate studies, she received several awards, including the Josephine Mitchell Research Prize, Josephine Mitchell Scholarship, J. Gordin Kaplan Graduate Student Award, Andrew Stewart Memorial Graduate Prize, and Graduate Student Principal Instructor Teaching Award.
Outside of research, she enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, skiing, and kayaking, as well as playing badminton.
